Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA)
An evidence-based teaching approach that builds language, play, academic, motor, self-help and daily-living skills, and reduces challenging behaviors such as aggression or self-injury.
How it works
Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) is a science-based therapy that uses evidence-based strategies to understand and improve behavior. By modifying antecedents and consequences and using interventions such as positive reinforcement, differential reinforcement, and the Premack Principle, ABA helps reduce challenging behaviors, such as aggression, self-injury, and tantrums, while increasing adaptive and replacement skills.
ABA focuses on developing communication, social interaction, learning, and daily living skills to promote greater independence and improve quality of life. Although ABA is used across various populations, it is particularly well known for its application with individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).
